At first I was like ‘what is this guy saying’ as he was speaking so fast. I first met him outside the hotel in Sweden with that oh-so-very-famous white stick in between his fingers, puffing away and trying my hardest to hold on to the words that were coming out of his mouth.

Now I speak fast I’m a true Geordie, not like these Sand-Dancers who call themselves Geordie (personal joke to Stuart), and even I was struggling at first, but then I got used to the South African accent and all was good.

Obviously I’m referring to Coenie Kukkuk. This man has impressed me so much and I am super proud to have met him and know him!

Throughout our Mr Gay Europe Journey, Coenie would be a literal fountain of knowledge, especially when it comes to anything LGBT related. Ask him a country and he can tell you the laws and legislations of that country! And to top that off he is incredibly funny. On one occasion he asked myself, Wales and Poland to carry his bags because he lived up a large hill in relation to the drop off point, so we all got off the coach and… We’re waiting. And waiting, and waiting for these bags, waiting for Coenie.

The Glamazon alights the coach and we ask ‘so, these bags?’ He replies, ‘Oh there are no bags, I just want the attention and someone to walk me home.’ That was where Mr Wales was gone in hysterics! (May have been one of those “had to be there moments” but it was so funny and he is such a character!)

Anyway, back to why I am writing this. I would just like to take a moment to thank and praise and give a virtual ‘High 10’ to this man. This week; Coenie and his team in South Africa led a campaign to ban ‘The Preacher of Hate’, Mr Steven Anderson, from ever entering the country of South Africa to spread his vile words. This man laughed at the Orlando Shootings at Pulse Nightclub back in June! So Coenie and his team managed to get 60,000 signatures from people of all walks of life to stop this vile man, leading to Maluisi Gigaba (The Minister Of Home Affairs) to deny the Pastor entry into South Africa!

Soon after the United Kingdom was to follow suit.

So if you are reading this now; give Coenie Kukkuk a massive round of applause!

You are an amazing man and a Legend in my eyes! Love you buddy! It is a pleasure and an honor to know you!

– Joni Valadares

Source: https://www.mrgayeurope.com/2016/09/coenie-kukkuk-real-life-hero/

Coenie & South Africa – 1 Steven Anderson & The Faithful Baptist Church – 0 So on my journey across Scandinavia, I had the amazing pleasure of meeting a lovely gentleman from South Africa.
